Fillings
Tooth decay destroys part of the tooth. A cavity is left behind after tooth decay. The dentists clean away the decay inside the cavity which still contains the bacteria to prevent the spread and damage to the tooth. Dental filling is used to restore the function, integrity and morphology of missing tooth structure. There are different types of fillings.
- Amalgam (Silver colored) – It is made of mercury, silver, tin, copper and other materials
- Composite fillings (tooth colored) – they are made from powdered glass quartz, silica or other ceramic particles added to a resin base. The shade can be matched to your teeth.
- Gold inlays and onlays (gold colored) — An inlay is small and placed on the biting surface of the tooth. An onlay can cover a larger area of the tooth. Gold is a long-lasting, hard wearing filling material and lasts for years.
- Porcelain inlays (tooth colored) — it is an expensive filling and usually requires two dental appointments. It can be matched to your tooth color.
